Peripheral

Calcified arteries & CFA disease: new UK PAD trials ahead

Don't miss this crucial update presented by Prof. Athanasios Saratzis on two significant upcoming UK randomised controlled trials (RCTs) set to influence future peripheral arterial disease (PAD) management. The RAVE and RAF studies are scheduled to launch between early and mid-2026, addressing persistent challenges in PAD treatment.

The RAVE trial will focus on patients with calcified arteries, comparing intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) against other vessel preparation strategies to assess post-procedural outcomes and optimise treatment for calcific lesions.

Simultaneously, the RAF trial targets common femoral artery (CFA) disease, comparing open surgery with modern endovascular approaches, including IVL, atherectomy, and drug-coated balloons (DCBs), in an effort to define the optimal management strategy for this vital segment.

Learn what is being planned for these foundational RCTs, from the specific patient populations to the critical primary outcomes, and stay informed about how the findings from RAVE and RAF are poised to reshape future clinical practice.
