Venous disease: compression, pelvic disorders and beyond

Dr Gustavo Basso speaks with Prof. Sarah Thomis and Prof. Jorinde van Laanen about key topics in the management of venous disease, including post-procedural compression, pelvic venous disorders and medical therapy following endovenous interventions.

Prof. Thomis reviews the latest evidence on compression therapy after endovenous treatment for superficial venous disease. Recent studies suggest that prolonged compression may not be necessary, with the greatest benefit seen during the first week. She also discusses the choice of compression and its role in preventing recurrence.

Prof. van Laanen then focuses on pelvic venous disorders, highlighting the complexity of diagnosing chronic pelvic pain, particularly in women. With symptoms varying widely and venous reflux, obstruction or both potentially involved, identifying the underlying pathology is essential to guide treatment.

The interview concludes with a discussion on medical therapy after endovenous treatment and the role of today's treatment options, including laser, radiofrequency, foam sclerotherapy and cyanoacrylate glue.

Watch the interview for an expert overview of the latest evidence and practical considerations in venous disease management.
