Carotid stenosis, AAA repair and training: French vs German perspectives
In this PVI 2025 session replay, representatives of the French and German Vascular Societies offer their respective perspectives on three key issues in vascular surgery.
They examine the management of asymptomatic carotid stenosis, debating surveillance, open surgery and endovascular treatment; explore the criteria for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, questioning whether the 55 mm threshold is sufficient to guide intervention; and discuss the challenges of training the next generation of vascular surgeons in an increasingly competitive environment involving cardiology, angiology and radiology.
By presenting both French and German viewpoints on each topic, the session highlights differences in clinical approaches, decision-making and professional training across the two countries.
